The Christmas countdown is about to begin, kick off your celebrations at a Christmas lights switch on and see South Wales at its most sparkly

Cardiff

If you’re looking for an early dose of seasonal spirit then make sure you visit Cardiff on Tuesday 15th Nov when the lights will be switched on for the first time, Winter Wonderland opens its doors, plus the Christmas Market and Festive Quarter will already be underway.

Merthyr Tydfil

The seasonal fun starts at 11am with lots of family festive fun including walkabout characters, stilt-walkers, Santa’s grotto, Farmers Market, Christmas tree festival, and much more. The fun moves to Penderyn Square in front of Redhouse from 5pm, ready for the big countdown at a 5.30pm with Capital FM presenters Josh and Kally and Santa Claus himself as they prepare to light up Merthyr.

Penarth

Celebrate the season and head to Penarth town centre this month for their annual Christmas lights switch on, 3pm until 7pm. It will be a day filled with Christmas cheer and lots of festive fun for the whole family. There’ll be live music, street theatre, funfair rides, stalls, fun crafts and lots of seasonal food and drink to enjoy.

Swansea

See the city at its most sparkly with the Swansea Christmas Parade. It’s a spectacle not to be missed with dancers, bands, choirs, floats, inflatables, fireworks, light-up characters and much more. Santa will also be switching on the Christmas lights to launch the festive season in Swansea.

Pontypridd

There’s lots to enjoy during the day including the return of the snow globe, children’s rides and Christmas stalls. This year there’s also an outdoor cinema and the event is on for an extra hour, 2pm until 7pm.
