What’s on at Glynn Vivian Art Gallery this summer

The leading gallery in South Wales, Glynn Vivian makes the arts accessible for all with something for everyone to enjoy this summer.

(Glynn Vivian Art Gallery)

On July 12th, Glynn Vivian Art Gallery opens a major new exhibition, Out of This World, by 2022 Turner Prize nominee, artist Heather Phillipson. This brand-new commission is part of the Imperial War Museums (IWM) 14-18 NOW Legacy Fund, a national partnership programme inspired by the heritage of conflict.

Heather Phillipson plots a sequence of sonic and atmospheric conditions that conjure airspace, aerospace and outer space! Glynn Vivian’s galleries will be filled with automated noises, ghostly communications and fragmented images that float and pulsate, creating what she calls ‘a visual and acoustic fog’.

Alongside this new commission the artist has selected works from IWM Collection, as well as works loaned from Cyfarthfa Castle Gallery and Museum and paintings from the Glynn Vivian permanent collection.

Heather Phillipson, Out of this World, is accompanied by a programme of free summer holiday family workshops, gallery trails, and artist talks. “Come and create with us, make a parachuting peg animal in our Saturday Art Club, or craft a paper bird of paradise in our Weekend Adult Workshop this July.”
